Divisions » Operations

The Operations Division is comprised of approximately 65 (31 full time and 35 part time) uniformed fire fighters and emergency medical personnel whose primary mission is to deliver courteous, quick, and skilled emergency services to the residents and guests of Miami Township. The Division delivers services from its four fire stations, three of which three are staffed around the clock by Division personnel. The fourth station operates as an “on call” station where personnel respond from nearby neighborhoods to staff apparatus during emergencies.

The Division provides three main types of emergency service:

Fire Suppression Services
The Division’s personnel staff three front line fire engines (pumpers), one front line ladder truck, and one battalion commander command vehicle. They respond to all types of fires including structure fires (those inside buildings), vehicle fires, trash or rubbish fires, and brush fires.

Emergency Medical Services
The Division operates three ambulances, referred to as medic units, that are staffed by well trained paramedics and emergency medical technicians capable of providing advanced life support that includes advanced cardiac monitoring and drug therapies, intravenous therapy, intubation, and breathing treatments.

Fire Prevention and Public Education
The Division routinely inspects the Township’s nearly 1100 businesses in order to ensure the safety of employees and visitors. Additionally, the Division offers school based fire/safety educational programs and small group educational opportunities at events like block parties, station tours, and group meetings.

Special Operations
The Division’s Special Operation’s Group (SOG) is responsible for the advanced technical rescue operations of the Department. Its members are skilled at high angle (rope) rescue/confined space rescue; ice and swift water rescue; structural collapse and trench rescue; and hazardous materials emergencies. Many of its members serve the Region 3 Rescue Strike Team.

Staff Development and Training
The Division’s regular staff development and training activities take many forms. The Division often utilizes many of its in house instructors and locally available specialist to offer its routine trainings that take place 6 days a week. Additionally, many members attend training offered through the Ohio and National Fire Academies. Many members also attend regional work shops and trainings.
