Lt. Russell A. Sweet, Miami Township Fire Division

Lt. Russ Sweet began his service for Miami Township Fire Division in 1990 and has served as a Lieutenant of Fire and EMS for the past eleven years. 

After graduating from Hocking Technical College in Nelsonville, Ohio, in 1986 with an Associate in Applied Science, Lt Sweet began serving with the Bellbrook Fire Department. He received his National Registry EMT-P certificate for the State of Ohio from D. Russel Lee Vocational School in 1989. After joining Miami Township Fire Division in 1990, he attended the Dayton Fire Academy and earned his Professional Fire Fighting Certification. He also served as a local volunteer with Clearcreek Fire District from 1991- 1998 as a Fire Lieutenant.

Lt. Sweet obtained and currently maintains certifications in Basic Trauma Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. He is also an instructor for both of these. He is also an EMS and Fire Instructor, Swift Water Instructor, and Ice Rescue Instructor and utilizes these certificates for the education of Miami Township personnel as well as other professional members of the Fire and EMS field. Lt. Sweet is also a fire inspector, fire investigator, and has served on the area arson team. He retains certificates in Rope Rescue, Ice Rescue, Auto Extrication, Trench Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, and Arson Investigation.

Lt. Sweet is an adjunct faculty member of Sinclair Community College, Dayton, Ohio, where is teaches in the EMT-B, EMT-I, and EMT-P programs. He was recognized by Sinclair EMS students for his excellence in teaching in 2004.
