Lieutenant/Paramedic Steven W. Shupert started in the Fire Service in April of 1984 with the West Carrollton Fire Department Ladder Company. He joined Miami Township Fire Department, Montgomery County in February 1993 where he is currently assigned to Second Platoon, Engine/Rescue Company #48, and serves as the Special Operations Officer for the Miami Township Fire Department.
Lieutenant Shupert attended Miami University and the Ohio Fire Academy NFPA 1001 Firefighter III program. He graduated from Butler County Joint Vocational School Paramedic program in July 1993. Since then Lt. Shupert has completed various certified training courses such as; Hazardous Material Technician, Fire Incident Command, NFPA 1670/1006 Rescue Technician, FEMA Rescue Specialist Instructor, Fire Investigation, HazMat Incident Command, State of Ohio Incident Management Program, Public Safety Instructor III, and Fire Safety Officer. He has also completed the National Fire Academy Company Officer and Building Construction program.
Lieutenant Shupert has participated in several committees for Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency and the State of Ohio such as; DHS/FEMA/USAR Standard Cache Tiger Team, DHS/FEMA/USAR Rescue Working Group, and is a Subject Matter Expert in Logistics (Rescue Tools), and Rigging and Lifting. He has also contributed to the State of Ohio Technical Advisory Committees on various technical rescue aspects. Lt. Shupert is a staff instructor for the Ohio Fire Academy, and Sinclair Community College, and other contract agencies.
A founding member of Ohio Task Force #1 federal USAR TF, Lt. Shupert has deployed to Xenia Tornados, Erica Baker Search, World Trade Center, Hurricanes; Isabel, Katrina, and Rita.
His service has been recognized with six citations for actions in the line of duty, Award for Meritorious Service, Governors Award for Heroism, Antioch Shriner’s Award for Fire Service Leadership, and the Fire/Rescue Magazine Fire Company Officer of the Year, 2006.
