David Schmaltz is a Deputy Fire Chief with the Miami Township Division of Fire and EMS.  He is currently assigned as a shift commander on 2nd platoon working a 24/48 hour schedule.  Deputy Chief Schmaltz is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Executive Fire Leadership from Grand Canyon University as well as participating in the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program.  The EFO program is a four year program in which the student attends the academy two weeks out of the year and is required to write an advanced research paper at the end of each course. 

Deputy Chief Schmaltz is a 1995 graduate of Siena Heights College.  He obtained an Associate Degree in General Studies.  He then went on to achieve his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Cincinnati in Fire Safety and Engineering Technology in 2000.

Deputy Chief Schmaltz is a 12 year veteran of the fire service.  He began his fire service career in January of 1994.  After receiving a scholarship to the Oakland Fire Training Institute in Oakland County Michigan he was hired by the Coldwater Fire Department.  He remained there for over 11 years.  In which time he progressed up the ranks to the position of Lieutenant which he held for 9 years.

After an exhausting hiring process he was offered the position of Deputy Chief with Miami Township.  He accepted the job and was officially sworn in on February 28, 2005.  Deputy Chief Schmaltz is now responsible for the entire EMS division.

Deputy Chief Schmaltz now resides in Germantown, Ohio, with his wife and two children.  Germantown is located on the west side of Miami Township.
