Personnel
The Division’s firefighters, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and staff are truly its most valuable asset. These ordinary members of the community provide extraordinary care to the Township’s residents and guests. The exemplary care and service provided by these personnel has been recognized by the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians who awarded five (5) of the Division’s members its prestigious Star of Life Award in 2004. The Star of Life is awarded to honor exceptional EMS personnel from across Ohio. Additionally, the four (4) of the Division’s members were recognized of their heroism in the Dayton area’s 2004 fire fighter of the year awards. One of the Division’s officer’s was also awarded the firefighter of the year leadership award in 2004. The firefighter of the year awards are supported and hosted by the Antioch Shrine Club of Dayton.
In addition to providing outstanding care to the residents and guests of the Township, several of the Division’s members participate in regional and national level organizations. At the regional level, the Division’s personnel play key roles in the Ohio’s Region III regional rescue team; serve in a leadership capacity with the Montgomery County Fire Chief’s Association, and the Ohio Fire Chief’s/Ohio Emergency Management Agency’s regional rescue team initiative. On the national level, personnel from Miami Township participate in the Department of Homeland Security’s Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) and the Ohio Task Force One Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR). These teams and the Division’s personnel have been deployed to the 9-11 disaster, the Florida hurricanes of 2004, and most recently to the hurricane Katrina disaster.
Additionally, members of the Division have authored chapters in several emergency response texts, articles in national trade journals, and are represented on the editorial board of one of the nation’s leading emergency response rescue journals. Its personnel have developed regionally and nationally recognized training curriculum in technical rescue, hazardous materials, emergency medical care, and emergency services care for Autistic patients. The Division’s members are active in the national standards making process that establishes national standards for protective equipment, training, and fire codes and is represented on the Federal Interagency Board on Terrorism. |
